Borough Council Mtg. Notes

We enjoy attending Carnegie Borough Council public monthly meetings to hear what the Council and Administration are doing for us.

On 8/14, we heard about Borough projects to convert all of Carnegie from an old “combined” sewer system to an environmentally sound “separated” sewer system.  A “combined” system means that pipes carry both stormwater and sewage. This can lead to overtaxed pipes during heavy stormwater events. Too much sewer flow during heavy rains can cause basement backups, overland flooding, and sewage polluted waterways in our area. The Cubbage Street Sewer Separation Project is the latest project to be completed. Next will be in Irishtown. Anybody who’s suffered a basement back up can certainly appreciate this!

Carnegie Police Dept’s annual Cruisin’ the Main was a success again this year, raising over $800.00 to purchase toys for each Carnegie child who comes to the Borough’s Christmas celebration in December. Gotta love these guys & gals for all they do for us, and this for our kids top of it.

The Borough is going after a very large grant from PennDOT to repair public sidewalks and public stairs.

There will be a glass recycling event, including a drug dump, and paper shredding sponsored by Rep. Anita Kulik at the Borough Bldg. parking lot on Saturday 9/23 from 8AM to 10PM.

Did you know that on August 25, 1923, thousands of members of the Ku Klux Klan descended upon Carnegie? (They chose Carnegie because of all the Catholics.) Our people drove them out. Can you imagine what we would do if this happened today? On 8/23, our library is presenting a moderated panel discussion about this historic event. Tickets are required: free for students, and $10 for non-students.  https://carnegiecarnegie.org/event/the-day-the-klan-came-to-town-a-panel-discussion/
