Mission, Board Members & Meetings
Mission Statement
“The Carlynton School District, recognizing the shared responsibility of the educators, students and families of this culturally diverse community, will provide a challenging educational program for all students within a safe, nurturing environment, which will enable them to function as productive, ethical and responsible global citizens.”

From the Carlynton School Board’s webpage:
“Finance Committee Meetings begin at 6:00 pm and are open to the public. Regular Voting Meetings begin at 7:00 PM (unless otherwise noted). Both meetings are held in the cafeteria (unless otherwise noted) in the Carlynton Junior-Senior High School. The board reserves the right to vote at all meetings.
Committee and Voting Meetings occur on the dates noted [in the calendar]. The Committee Meeting is held one week prior to the voting meeting. The voting meeting includes administrative reports, discussions, and voting on agenda items. Presentations, relevant to items on the agenda, will take place on an occasional basis.
All meetings, except for the executive sessions, are open to the public. At public meetings, members of the community are welcome to address the Board with a question or concern. Individuals are usually asked to express their concerns or ask general questions at the beginning of the meetings on an agenda item, with time set aside at the conclusion of the meetings for other issues.“
School board meetings are open to the public.
You don’t have to be a parent to have a reason to attend. For example, most of the property tax we pay is our school tax.
- If Republican federal or state politicians vote to cut support for our schools, the board will very likely be forced to raise our taxes.
- Our state law allows charter schools to force our school district to pay tuition for every Carlynton student that they enroll. Each year, many thousands of our tax dollars are taken away from our local school programs and funneled into charter schools. Moreover, charter schools do not have to publicly report how they spend our tax dollars, and are not required to have a credentialed teacher in every classroom.

Voting for school board members in primary elections can be confusing because the candidates typically cross-file, meaning they file petitions to appear on ballots of both Democrats and Republicans.
We have to do our homework and be informed about who we are voting for, every election. It matters to every child, and to every tax payer.
