About

The Carnegie Democratic Commitee

There are many reasons why we love Carnegie! It is a safe, beautiful, and thriving community. It has been said that Carnegie is a sleeping giant.  Our location is ideal. Nestled wonderfully and conveniently between downtown Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh International Airport, we are close enough to all the culture and business opportunities of downtown, close enough to the airport to make business travel a breeze, and yet retain that safe, friendly, small-town feel.

With new businesses and venues arriving each year, Carnegie has come a long way in the past ten years. For example: Sugar Butter Bakery, El Pollon, Scoops on Main, DeBlaze at 131, Dagny’s, LeoGreta, Seoul Korean BBQ… Carnegie ROCKS!

Our Mission

Our mission is to elect Democrats who embody our core values of equality, justice, and opportunity for all. We focus on candidates for Carnegie Borough Offices and the Carlynton School District Board of Directors.

Who we are

Committee Members are selected from two wards with four districts each, which make up our borough. Ward 1,  west of Chartiers Creek, was previously Chartiers Borough.  Ward 2,  east of Chartiers Creek, was formerly known as Mansfield Borough. See the Map of Carnegie.  Now they are simply called Wards 1 and 2.

Our bylaws, set by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, require that one male and one female represent each of our eight precincts.  On a fully staffed committee, positions may open up for new members when an elected or appointed member retires or moves outside of Carnegie.

Each committee also appoints officers: Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary who may already be members of the committee. Currently, we are in need of a Treasurer and a Secretary.

What we do

All municipal committees, like our Carnegie Democratic Committee, are members of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee (ACDC). Our shared goal is electing Democrats. Our new ACDC leadership believes that using grassroots political tactics is one of the most powerful and effective ways to accomplish our goal. We are inspired by ACDC, and we stand on their shoulders. In turn, ACDC counts on us to support local candidates (for our borough council and our schoolboard).

Our Committee Members and Friends serve as the Democratic voice in our precincts. We agree with ACDC that we are all at our best when engaging with our neighbors, respectfully talking about issues, and encouraging voters to support our Democratic candidates.

No matter how much or how little time you have, or what physical limitations you may work with, there are many ways to volunteer with us. Here are some examples:

  • Phoning voters to educate them about candidates and ballot measures
  • Going door to door (canvassing) to meet voters and drop off campaign literature
  • Attending a monthly committee meeting and helping with committee activities
  • Collecting signatures for Democrat candidate nomination petitions
  • Displaying Democrat candidate yard signs
  • Writing postcards to voters
  • Knowing election procedures, like vote by mail rules
  • Informing voters about elections and deadlines

Our Vision for Carnegie
and Allegheny County

Our vision is to be a year-round community resource that collaborates with municipal and county efforts to improve quality of life for all Carnegie residents. This includes, but is not limited to, addressing climate challenges affecting public health, safety, and longevity, and supporting workers’ rights through strong union advocacy.

Democrats all over the country are working hard to build a stronger and more just future for every American, and Allegheny County Democrats are at the forefront of this fight.”
