Carnegie Committee Endorsements
The Carnegie Democratic Committee held two meetings last week to evaluate local candidates and make endorsements. The local committee is a sub-group of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee and only makes endorsements for local office, which include mayor, council, and tax collector. Committee Chair Rick D’Loss is currently serving his 8th and final year on Borough Council and stated, “the best candidates in Carnegie are Democrats and we are very pleased to endorse this group of candidates for the primary election on May 16″.

Some notes on the upcoming election:
- Current Carnegie Mayor Jack Kobistek is running for district judge, seeking to fill the empty seat of the retired Dennis Joyce. Therefore, there is no incumbent in the race for Carnegie mayor. Council member Stacie Riley will seek that office.
- Council member Regina Popichak was appointed in January to fill the unexpired term of Pat Catena when he was appointed to County Council. Therefore, she is running to retain her seat. Rick D’Loss is stepping down at the end of this term; his seat is therefore open. Former Council member and mayor Emmett Freshwater seeks to return to Council and fill that seat. And Phil Boyd is running to retain his seat.
- Tax Collector Peg Bowman is stepping down from her position, and therefore, that seat will have no incumbent. Former Council member Joe Luvara will seek that office.
